BLXC Competes at State; Leuer Named Athlete of the Month
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Big Lake High School boys’ cross-country team capped off what had been a very successful season with their fourth straight trip to the MSHSL state tournament. The team, which had been very consistent all season, kept things rolling by securing an impressive 8th-place finish out of a field of 16 teams.
Senior Jack Leuer led the Hornets with a 5th-place individual finish, while teammates Judd Layton (59th), Trent Erickson (80th), and Gavin Flavin (88th) also placed in the top 100. Other Big Lake athletes competing included Theo Johnson, Gavin Vold, and Eli Henning.
The tournament took place at the Les Bolstad Golf Course at the University of Minnesota.
In light of his cross country success, Leuer was selected by the M8 Athletic Administrators as the “BSN” Mississippi 8 Conference Athlete of the Month for November 2024.
Leuer, nominated by the Big Lake High School administration for his achievements, was then chosen as the “most outstanding” athlete by all nine administrators from the member schools at a recent conference meeting. He received a plaque sponsored by BSN Sports in recognition of his exceptional athletic accomplishments.
“Congratulations to Jack Leuer for being selected to receive this award. I’m excited that he is being recognized for his outstanding achievement,” stated Activities Director Mark Kuisle. "We are very proud of Jack. He is a great representation of our school, the Big Lake community, and the Mississippi 8 Conference."
